Hike around Lake Braies

Today we discover the "Pearl of the Dolomites" on foot. We start at the restaurant Lago di Braies and walk along the left lake shore. After a few metres we pass a pile dwelling with a boat hire. We highly recommend a boat trip on this wonderful, emerald-green lake. Today, we continue our walk without boat trip.

The next section is narrower and characterised by some roots. We are now approaching the most narrowest part of the lake where the body of water extends in its full length. The shores are equipped with several recreational areas where you can stop for a break. The path then moves away from the lake whose wonderful colour sparkles between the trees. We reach a picnic area featuring tables and benches. In this point the path narrows and continues uphill on a vertical rock wall from where we can admire the lake from a bird's eye perspsective.

In the southern part of the lake the path returns to the lake shore and the beaches in hairpin bends. The southern beaches are equipped with toilets. As we leave the beaches behind us the path broadens. From the western shore we can see the itinerary under the rocks on the opposite lakeside. We return to the Lago di Braies restaurant by continuing along the large path complete with several recreational areas.

Please note: lake Braies in the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park is a natural UNESCO heritage site and therefore a protected area. We ask you not to leave your waste in nature and to respect nature to preserve its unique beauty! The path is suitable also for less trained hikers.
