Ainet lies at the entrance of the Isel valley, only few kilometres from the town of Lienz.

The municipality of Ainet with its small villages of Alkus and Gwabl lies at the entrance of the Isel valley, only few kilometres from the town of Lienz. Its first official mentioning dates back to the year 1200 when it was called “Ayned“. Some of the farms in the municipal territory of Ainet reach a height of 1,300 metres asl.
Ainet is particularly popular with people searching for tranquillity and relaxation. Beautiful alpine pastures make up half of its territory and an other third consists of wood. Of course, hiking is a great pleasure here. Ainet also attracts with a very interesting natural stone learning trail (”Natursteinlehrpfad“) and the Weiherburg castle, built by the Lord of Wolkenstein-Rodenegg in the year 1930, rebuild after burning down. Moreover, very worth to be visited is the famous Hohe Tauern National Park.
To those of you who are looking for an adrenaline experience we recommend the high rope course in the Outdoor Camp Osttirol Adventures, where you can swing from tree top to tree top on a hight of 8 until 14 metres … an unforgettable experience!
If you are interested in culture and history visit the Admont monastery, which exhibits some pieces of art of the sculptor Jakob Gilber (19th century). The reliefs of the Stations of the Cross in the parish church of Ainet are also among his masterpieces.
