Lavant

The charming village of Lavant in the heart of the Lienz Dolomites lies near the boarder to Carinthia and is very popular with golf players, but not only

Altitude: 675 metres a.s.l.

The charming mountain village of Lavant lies in the Drautal valley at the border to Carinthia, only 8 km from Lienz. The so-called “Lavanter Kirchbichl” hill, considered to be a holy mountain, is represented on the emblem of Lavant. Its very romantic and authentic atmosphere makes of Lavant a perfect holiday destination for everybody looking for relaxation.

In winter, Lavant attracts skiers and snowboarders thanks to its proximity to the ski regions Zettersfeld and Lienzer Bergbahnen. Normally, the skiing season in Lavant is very long and can last even until the end of March. A lot of other sports like tobogganing, cross-country skiing and ice skating can be practised, too, and children can have great fun at a huge playing ground, offering everything their hearts desire.
Those who love playing golf might be familiar with Lavant, as it lies near the 36-hole-golf course of the “Golf & Resort Dolomitengolf”, which is surrounded by an impressive mountain panorama of the Lienz Dolomites and offers a Driving Range and an own golf school, as well as a club house and a sun terrace. Of course, there are also many other sports activities that can be done in summer, like tennis, cycling, soccer, etc.

If you are interested in culture and history, we recommend you to visit the pilgrimage church Maria Lavant, which was built in the 1770s and hosts precious frescoes and ceiling paintings. Another church worth to be visited is the church of St. Peter and Paulus and of course the archaeological excavation site Aguntum, which is not far away from Lavant.
