Lake Dorfer

Lake Dorfer is a popular hiking destination in the High Tauern National Park in East Tyrol

In the impressive alpine world of the High Tauern National Park in East Tyrol, the Dorfer valley is located. For some time now, the entire Dorfer valley is part of the national park, the project to build a vast impounding reservoir in this gorgeous valley was rejected. Today it is a popular excursion destination during the summer months.

Several hiking tours proceed through the valley, like along the National Park theme path to the Debaklamm gorge with its roaring water and the viewing platforms and then to Lake Dorfer. The hike starts in the village of Burg in the national park municipality of Kals am Grossglockner. It proceeds further to the Kalser Tauernhaus mountain hut (1,755 m a.s.l) and from there to Lake Dorfer (3 hours). Especially in early summer, the lake is a beautiful photo motif, when the surrounding is dotted with alpine roses.
