The villages of Rio Pusteria, Maranza and Valles are situated in the heart of the Gitschberg-Jochtal holiday area, characterised by lovely alpine pastures. The sunny high plateau provides a vast network of hiking trails. Also cities such as Bolzano and Bressanone can easily be reached from this area. From the top of the Gitschberg you can by the way admire 500 mountain peaks, from the Ortles mountain group to the Brenta Dolomites and the Stubai Alps. -
The winter sports area of Gitschberg-Jochtal stretches from 1,400 to 2,500 m asl and can be reached from Rio di Pusteria via the two villages of Maranza and Valles. Gitschberg-Jochtal does not only stand for skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing and cross-country skiing, but also for hiking in summertime. By the way, the Gitschberg-Jochtal skiing areas are particularly family-friendly.
The Bassa Pusteria comprises the municipalities of Rio di Pusteria with Valles, Maranza and Spinga as well as Vandoies with Vandoies di Sopra, Vandoies di Sotto and the unspoilt Valle di Fundres. The river that runs through the valley is called Rienza and originates in Alta Pusteria.
A visit to the Loden museum in Vandoies, a coffee at Piazza della Chiesa in Rio Pusteria, a walk in the lovely Valle d’Altafossa and a visit to the alpine village Fane Alm must absolutely be part of your holidays in this area. The Monti di Fundres, a mountain range that belongs to the Zillertal Alps, provides ideal terrain for tour in the mountains. Bressanone, Brunico and Vipiteno are also only a stone’s throw away.
