Winter path and Tristenbach sledge run

Winter hike through snowy landscapes from Rio Bianco in the Valle Aurina to the Innerhofer, Marxegger and Pircher huts

Directly on the main Alpine ridge beneath the Zillertal Alps, the village of Rio Bianco is located in a side valley of the Valle Aurina and therefore belongs to the very snow-secure spots. At the upper edge of the village the Tristenbach sledge run branches off at the left side of the street. It proceeds to three mountain huts, which are also open in winter: Innerhofer, Marxegger and Pircher. The path proceeds uphill in serpentines until we reach a flat pasture at the Innerhofer mountain hut. Then a short descent follows before we start the last ascent up to the Marxegger and Pircher mountain huts in the Wurmtal valley.

At a leisurely pace, the 3.5 km long ascent takes us about 90 minutes. The mountain huts offers local dishes and we enjoy our break with a gorgeous view on the snowy alpine world. There are two possibilities now, to come down to the valley again, either by sledge or by foot along the same route (or along path n° 25A). By the way - the mountain huts rent sledges out!
