The Museum of Ethnography in Teodone is one of the most beautiful open air museums in Europe. Visitors can explore two dozen farms representative of various South Tyrolean valleys and learn a lot about the original tools and equipment farmers used in the past. The Museum of Ethnography is one of eight provincial museums founded by the Province of South Tyrol.
At the Mair am Hof farm, the core of the museum, visitors can learn a lot about the life of the rural nobility, craft-work and religious traditions. Moreover, it exhibits a collection of pipes, belts and zithers. The exhibitions rooms in the ground floors are also accessible by people with disabilities.
In the open area of the Museum of Ethnography visitors can explore the inside of several farm houses and factories, getting a very interesting insight into the farmers’ everyday life and learning a lot about the many different types of farms and farm houses in South Tyrol.
Very often children tend to be bored when visiting a museum. This is definitely not going to be the case in Teodone, where they can spend a very exciting day outside, meeting farm animals like pigs, goats and bullocks, and watching farmers’ activities such as bread baking, hoeing and sheep shearing. The museum is open from spring to autumn.
Opening hours:
Easter Monday to October 31
> Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm. last entrance at 4 pm
> closed on Mondays (no closing day in August)
