Walk to the Riva waterfalls
An impressive natural monument can be visited in a walk close to Campo di Tures.
Starting point for our walk is the centre of Campo Tures, where we traverse the Aurina river and follow the course of this river. At a crossing near the centre, we follow the trail number 2 into the Riva gorge, where we immediately reach the first and 10 m high waterfall. By the way, there is also a panel that provides information on the Vedrette di Ries nature park.
Now we continue slightly upwards and we walk on a contemplation trail (Besinnungsweg). Afterwards the paths split and we take the left one at the crossing, leading us the way up. What catches our sight short after are a contemplative place decorated with wooden figurines.
Then we continue on the left, up the stairs, afterwards we continue above the Riva gorge. The second waterfall, slightly higher than the first, enters our sight. A trail leads us the way to the third waterfall, which is about 40 m high and also the most impressive one. Short before we traverse the gorge and we reach another crossing, walking the way up. Keep on the left side and follow the sign Toblhof.
Opposite the tavern Toblhof, the trail n° 2a takes you to Campo Tures, in the first part slightly upwards and then parallel across meadows and forests. Again a short ascend, then we reach an asphalted road taking us through the forest. Follow this road, which brings you close to the centre of Campo Tures.
From here you can either decide to walk to the Castle or back to the village. We decide to return to the starting point. It was a great excursion and the waterfalls are really worth to be visited.
Walking time: 2 - 3 hours
Altitude difference: 238 m
Altitude: 864 m asl
Length of the course: about 7 km
Starting point: Campo Tures, centre
Where to stop: Toblhof
Please note: impressive natural monument, particularly in summer, when the waterfall carries more water than in other seasons. Highly recommendable is above all the last one with the highest cascade.
