Hike around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo

The Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Alta Pusteria have always been one of the most significant landmarks of the Dolomites. The Sesto Dolomites are in fact a true paradise for hiking and climbing enthusiasts. Contrary to what you might think, this area also features easy hiking paths which are suitable also for less experienced hikers and families. The panoramic views you can enjoy along these itineraries are simply amazing.

Our starting point is lake Misurina in the Val di Landro where we park our car. We take the bus which brings us to the Auronzo hut at 2,320 m via a toll road. We walk along the southern slope of the Tre Cime (path no. 101) towards the Lavaredo hut (rifugio Lavaredo) at 2,344 m where we follow a narrow path on the left leading uphill to Monte Paterno. Here, at an altitude of 2,454 metres we admire the stunning northern walls of the Tre Cime. With the Tre Cime always in sight we proceed slightly downhill at the foot of Monte Paterno until we reach a fork where we follow the signposts to the A. Locatelli hut (2,405 m a.s.l.).

After about 1.5 hours of walking we eventually reach the A. Locatelli hut, our destination. However, we decide to conquer the Torre di Toblin right behind the hut. Unfortunately we are not able to reach the top of the peak because we didn't bring our climbing equipment. We return to the hut where we eat our picnic. After our break we take path no. 105 to the Malga Lange at 2,232 m a.s.l. We hike along the western slope of the Tre Cime and return to the Auronzo hut, our staring point, from where we take the bus back to the car park.
