Lake Dobbiaco

Lake Dobbiaco stands for a lake stretching between the Sesto and Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park

The relatively small Lake Dobbiaco is located at 1,176 m in the homonymous municipality of the Val Pusteria, it is fed and emptied by the Rienza river. The lake comprises a diametre of 4.5 km and is located between the Sesto and the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park.

This lake emerged subsequent to a rockfall and represents today one of the few wetland areas of the Alps. In the surroundings of the lake, five bunkers were established, as Mussolini wanted to protect the access to Italy. These bunkers are part of the so-called Alpine wall.

Round Lake Dobbiaco there is a natural trail, which has been established in the year 2000 by the Provincial Nature Park Department. 11 information panels provide useful and interesting information on flora and fauna as well as its geomorphology. In other words, a school class in the heart of nature. Moreover also your practical skills are challenged: long jump with the inhabitants of the forest. For the round trail, which can by the way also be walked with kids and prams, you should schedule about 2 hours.
