San Vito is the chief village of the municipality of Sesto and starting point for several tours in the Dolomites.
The village of Sesto, named after the patron saint S. Vito, is the chief village of the municipality and is located in one of the side valleys of the Val Pusteria, close to the border of East Tyrol. San Vito is located at 1,300 m asl, the parish church is worth to be visited due to the ceiling paintings of the artist Albert Stolz of Bolzano alone. To this artist, a museum in the centre is dedicated.
In order the become familiar with Sesto, we recommend you a trail called “Sextner Rundweg”. This walk provides an insight into the history, culture and nature and is also ideal for a family tour.
Possibilities for hikes are also offered by the Valle Campo di Dentro, where you can walk to the Rif. Tre Scarperi. What you absolutely don’t have to miss is a tour to the Rif. Tre Cime di Lavaredo, from where you can enjoy a fabulous view on the famous north face of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. What we particularly recommend is an overnight stay, as only in this way you can enjoy the pleasure of the enrosadira, the breathtaking sunset in the Dolomites. For those who love climbing, there is the climbing arena of Sesto, between San Vito and Moso.
In winter Sesto is likewise popular: a ski tour on the Sasso di Sesto, cross-country skiing in Valle Campo di Dentro with a fabulous view on the Dolomites, there is much to see and do. And after an exhausting tour you will be spoiled in your accommodation. What we guarantee is that you will come back.
