Gaimberg

The holiday village of Gaimberg lies at the foot of the Zettersfeld mountain in the Dolomites of Lienz, north of the main town of East Tyrol

Altitude: 700 - 2,000 metres a.s.l.

The municipality of Gaimberg comprises the neighbourhoods of Obergaimberg, Untergaimberg, Grafendorf, Postleite, Wartschensiedlung and Zettersfeld. According to some historical findings, Gaimberg was populated very early. Today, the village particularly attracts with its great views of the Dolomites of Lienz and its closeness to Lienz, the main town of East Tyrol. Its landscape is characterized by the cultivation of cereals and fruits.

Gaimberg's most famous mountain is the Zettersfeld in the Schober mountain range, offering many different leisure possibilities. Morever, Gaimberg is very sunny: with more than 2,000 sun hours it is a real paradise for hiking passionates, but not only!
The motto of the so-called sun trails ("Sonnenwege“), which snake through Gaimberg and its surroundings, is „hiking, knowing and experiencing“: the village trail (“Dorfrunde Gaimberg“) leading from Lienz to Gaimberg, the Dolomites panorama trail (“Dolomitenblickweg“) offering, as its name says, great views of the surrounding mountains, the peace trail (“Friedensweg“) ideal to meditate, the Kneipp trail ("Kneippwanderweg“) explaining the five elements of the famous Kneipp treatments, the birds trail (“Vogelerlebnisweg“) and the old life's trail (“Vom Alten Leben“). On these theme trails you can learn a lot! Hiking passionates can climb one of the many peaks in the Dolomiten of Lienz. And not to forget: Gaimberg and its surroundings are perfekt for paragliding and hand gliding.

In winter the ski region of Zettersfeld offers a lot of fun, particularly for families. In the valley there are many cross-country ski runs, like the "Amlacherrunde“ or the night-illuminated "Lavantrunde“.

On a sight-seeing tour through Gaimberg you can visit the church of holy Bartholomew with its neo-Gothic winged altar of Karl Untergasser and the beautiful chapel of the cemetery of Gaimberg.
