Valdaora di Mezzo

Valdaora di Mezzo is the chief village of the municipality and is situated close to the lower terminus of the gondola cable-way of the Plan de Corones

Valdaora is the chief village of the municipality of Valdaora and is located at 1,048 m, inhabited by 1,400 people. Its centre is represented by the Agidius church, dating back to 1138 and boasting several precious late-Gothic frescoes of the painter Michael Pacher and his pupil Simon von Taisten. Characterising for the centre is also the Peter Sigmayr monument. The so-called Tharerwirt host was born in Valdaora and is considered as hero of the freedom fighter of Tyrol.

Only a stone’s throw from Valdaora di Mezzo, there is the little locality of Gassl, where the valley station of the Plan de Corones skiing and hiking area is located. In winter it takes you to the heart of the skiing area, providing 105 km of well-groomed ski slopes, while in summer you can enjoy the crystal clear mountain air and flee from the heat in the valley.

Valdaora is connected to the cycling trail of the Val Pusteria, enabling you great excursions, e.g. to the Alta Val Pusteria. If you would like to leave your car at home, there are three bike rentals available in Valdaora.

Our tip: hiking from Valdaora di Mezzo to the Angerer Alm pasture to the Lanzwiesenalm, which is open in summertime.
