The municipality of Valdaora comprises the localities of Valdaora di Sopra, Valdaora di Mezzo and Sorafurcia. Inhabited by about 2,500 people, it stretches from 981 m to 2,567 m. Valdaora is situated between Brunico and Monguelfo and is connected both to the railway line and the cycling route of the Val Pusteria. Thanks to its location at the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park and in close vicinity to the Dolomites, Valdaora provides numerous hiking destinations such as the Punta Tre Dita and the Piz da Perez. The pass road to the Passo Furcia, however, has repeatedly attracted the world-famous cycling race of the Giro d’Italia.
As far as leisure time activities are concerned, Valdaora offers a Nordic Walking park, several Alpine pastures, an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a driving range for golf players and a horse riding stable. Also worth a visit is the spring Bad Bergfall that has already been discovered by the Romans. In winter the Plan de Corones dominates the leisure time, as a lower terminus is directly located in Valdaora. Moreover it offers a 10 km long cross-country ski run, ideal for experiencing the valley basin of Valdaora.
