Kiens Chienes

Chienes

Chienes is located in the holiday area of the Plan de Corones and offers some interesting attractions such as the mountain pine oil distillery “Bergila“ and the Casteldarne Castle.

The municipality of Chienes has got some 2,650 inhabitants and comprises the main village as well as the localities of San Sigismondo, Corti, Casteldarne and the shady and forested mountain ridge of the Getzenberg and its scattered farmsteads. The main village is located along the road of the Val Pusteria, is run through by the Rienza and offers two train stations, that are Casteldarne and San Sigismondo. Thanks to the train of the Val Pusteria, Chienes is well-served by the means of public transport. Approach? Comfortably choose the train.

Worth noticing is the interesting Baroque construction of Casteldarne Castle, which boasts lush interior furnishing. The milestone of Casteldarne can be visited in a walk, while other hiking destinations are represented by the Moarhofalm pasture or the Cima di Pozzo. Other attractions are the mountain pine oil distillery “Bergila“ with respective herb garden and the show diary Gatscher. In summer we recommend you an afternoon at the lake of Issengo or an excursion along the cycling trail of the Val Pusteria. In winter, however, you can enjoy skiing on the slopes of the Plan de Corones and winter hikes in the Val Pusteria valley.
